In 1869 on this day, officials and workers of the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific railways met on Promontory Summit, in the Utah Territory, to drive in the golden spike. This object symbolized completion of the first transcontinental railroad, an event which joined the nation from coast to coast and reduced a journey of four months to just one week. To build unity today, take a note card, and write down a blessing or wish for someone close to you. Mail the card to that person. (To cast this spell in a coven or circle meeting, put the note cards into a basket and let every-one draw a card.) As each person opens the card and reads the blessings, the ties between you are strengthened. |
