This is a practical tip to improve communication with your kids, but the results could be absolutely magical. Take them for a drive. I have had some of the best conversations ever with my daughters while it's just us in the car. It works best if it's just one of them with me, because they aren't competing for my attention, but sometimes I've had great discussions with them both present.
Pick a child up from school for a little one-on-one time. Make it just the two of you as they head to a doctor or dental appointment. Have them run an errand or go shopping with you. Ask how their day went, or how lunch was. Ask after a friend of theirs that you know about. The trick is to open the door for them to talk, so don't force it or make it seem like an inquisition. |
