About the Cards in Your Reading

Four of Wands
In the Root position
Four of Wands
This card represents the root of the matter; what has gone before, and is directly related to the current situation. Check to see how the energies of this card blend with the other six cards; remember that it moves with each mystery in a different way.

Meaning: When the Four of Wands dances into a reading, get ready to party! This card symbolizes celebrations such as birthday parties and, of course, baby and bridal showers. This may be a celebration with a family or a coven. This is the celebration of a happy event, a graduation, an anniversary, or a lavish and fun sabbat observance. The Four of Wands classically is interpreted as a fertility card, which links it to the sabbat of Beltane. This card announces an opportunity and a time to share joy with another. It may also represent a time of creativity and freedom of expression.

Keywords: Celebration, rejoicing over a happy event. Freedom, parties, baby and bridal showers, sabbat celebrations. Fertility, creativity, freedom of expression.

Ace of Swords
In the Love position
Ace of Swords
This card shows the energies of the first mystery of universal love in the life of the querent. It explains how the querent's actions manifest in the surrounding world, whether following a harmonious Wyrd or a flawed one. It also describes how the querent perceives his or her relationships with others.

Meaning: The Ace of Swords is the most potent and pure form of the masculine element of air. When the Ace of Swords flies into your life, you are being put on notice that it is time to take action. This is a card of intellect, heroism, victory, justice, achievement, new beginnings, and winning battles. Another of this card's most important lessons is that now you have the chance for a new way of thinking. Cut through the fantasy and embrace what is. The truth hurts, but sometimes it can also heal and make room for a new, improved reality. Success is attainable; victory is near; go grab a hold of it with both hands!

Keywords: Success, truth, awareness, victory. Determination. Take action now. A clear perception leads to spirit and a closer connection to deity. The element of air.

The Hanged Man
In the Magick position
The Hanged Man
Here are indicated the energies of the second mystery of magick in the life of the querent. This card shows how we use our gifts, talents, skills, intuition, and psychism; and, in particular, how these gifts should or should not be used at this time. If the querent practices the occult sciences, some indication of that may be found here, if it bears relevance on the question posed.

Meaning: When this card appears in a reading, it is a message to look at things from a different viewpoint. Embrace the idea of initiation as a vehicle to newer wisdom and a clearer spiritual path. Let go of the illusion of control, turn things on their heads, and look carefully at the lessons before you. Relax and be patient; this may not be easy, but fighting against the changes in your life only creates more drama. Read the signs carefully, be they tarot cards or runes. Meditate on their lessons as you allow yourself to go through this transitional or initiatory phase calmly and with joy. By doing so, you will uncover the mysteries.

Keywords: Initiation, transitional phase of life. Relax and let changes come. New outlook on life, rune magick, gaining a new perspective on a current situation.

The Hermit
In the Oath position
The Hermit
This card brings forth the energies of the third mystery of one's oath in the life of the querent; showing what the querent, up to this point, has dedicated his or her life to, what his or her principles are, and how he or she operates according to those values. It may show you what is most important to the querent at this time.

Meaning: The Hermit card is all about taking purposeful time off, standing alone, and looking within. When this card appears in a reading, it is a sign that you need to take some downtime for your- self and regroup. Now is the time for vision questing, reflection, intuition, meditation, and self-development. It is time to work your magick solitarily for a while, even if you are a member of a coven. Trust in yourself and in your gut hunches, and take some personal time to see where this leads you. Let your magick light the way, no matter what challenges you are facing.

Keywords: Reflection, meditation, intuition. Taking time off from the coven. Solitary work, spending some time alone out in nature, gaining enlightenment.

Page of Cups
In the Karma position
Page of Cups
The effects of the fourth mystery of karma or Wyrd in the life of the querent are apparent in this card. It can tell you if the person is working toward good karma, or not so good. Physical birth or death, both of issues and people, may fall here, depending on the question. Indications of past and present actions can assist you in answering the question posed. Financial and mental stability are also reflected in this card.

Meaning: When the Page of Cups splashes into a reading, you are being put on notice that new intuitive talents are about to emerge. Take this time to explore your gifts. Immerse yourself in the exploration of your intuition, empathy, clairvoyance, and other psychic talents. This court card may also symbolize a student just beginning their studies in the magickal arts. Embrace the fun of discovery, and put some joy back into your craft. As with all court cards, the page can represent an actual person. Typically, this will be a youth with blond or brown hair and blue, light hazel, or green eyes. The message of the Page of Cups is to explore your magickal and psychic talents. Don't forget that magick is a joyous thing!

Keywords: Imagination. A student beginning magickal or psychic studies, discovering new psychic or magickal talents, embracing hope, and rediscovering the joy of your craft.

Nine of Swords
In the Wisdom position
Nine of Swords
This card indicates the fifth mystery of wisdom, power, and lineage in the life of the querent. Here you will be able to discover whether or not the querent has used wise counsel, directs his or her power wisely, and how he or she is responding to his or her life's plan. The card can also tell you from what source the querent should draw to assist in the issue at hand.

Meaning: This is the "drama queen" card. When it turns up in a reading, it symbolizes a person who is always having a crisis or causing drama in coven dynamics or social situations. They may be an emotional or psychic vampire, or they themselves could be the willing victim of such an attack. As this is a nine of the suit, it also symbolizes that you are near the end of the problem. Things have reached their peak and should begin to settle down-as long as you do not give way to dramatics. Decide to pick up the sword, to be proactive, and to defend yourself and your personal energies. Furthermore, this card can represent the karmic repercussions of poor judgment or backlash from a manipulative magickal act. I think of this card as a perfect illustration of baneful magick that has returned to its sender times three.

Keywords: "Drama queen" card. Psychic or emotional vampire or victim. Baneful magick returned to its sender times three.

Knight of Swords
In the Outcome position
Knight of Swords
The final card shows overall advice and counsel on the question asked.

Meaning: If we had to sum up this court card in two words, they would be "no fear." When this card comes roaring into a reading, expect excitement, movement, and adventure. There is a need for action, and it is time for you to dive in and be the hero. This court card represents a passionate and exciting young man with brown hair and gray or hazel eyes. This is an individual who is clever and capable in a crisis. He is shrewd and dynamic, and possesses a razor-sharp wit. He may be a bit arrogant, but it is all a part of his charm. This is the card of the soldier and the warrior. The Knight of Swords will roar into your life bringing exploration, communication, new ideas, and change.

The challenge from the Knight of Swords is to stand up for yourself and your beliefs. Rapid movement and transformation is blowing your way-hang on and enjoy the ride.

Keywords: No fear. Courage, momentum. Swift change and progress. A clever, brave, and capable man. Stand up and defend your position.
