Term: Mind-Body Connection

DEFINITION:

It is only recently that science has recognized that there is somewhat of a two-way street between Mind and Body. Both are far more complex than earlier perceived and more intimately connected through energy and hormonal exchanges.

With this recognition, we have the beginning of "mental healing" where visual images are found to influence the body. And, with meditation or hypnosis (and self-hypnosis, of course), imagined exercises and movements were found to result in muscular developments.

Equally interesting, with Reichian Therapy, deep massage and certain exercises involving specific muscle groups was found to release emotional traumas and bring memories of their origins to the conscious awareness.
