Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer Spell

Summer is a season when we expect to have plentiful spare time. Unfortunately, the reality is often the opposite. People travel in summer, and we are then consumed with map-reading, the desperate search for a restroom, lost toys in the ocean, too much cotton candy, and often much more stress than the rest of the year. And as Saturday is the traditional day of Saturn, planet of getting things done, today you might choose to go against tradition. Arrange for someone else to be responsible for the children today. Send them to a friend's or grandparents' house for a sleepover on Friday night. Don't use the alarm clock in the morning. Sleep until you wake up. Stay in your pajamas as long as you want. Put away the telephones; turn off the fax machine; don't log on to your e-mail. You are incommunicado for the day. You can watch all the TV you want. You can lie in a hammock and read a trashy novel. Even if you don't have a backyard, try stringing up a hammock in your home. You can have pizza for breakfast and popcorn for dinner. Think about everything, think about nothing, but make sure you are listening to yourself, and not all the white noise that surrounds us all the time. Luxuriate in a bath full of sweet-smelling oil. Order in a good meal. By Sunday morning, you will feel refreshed.
