This aspect of the grain goddess is sometimes called Black Demeter. She has a fearsome visage and snaky hair. On her journey to the underworld, she brings gifts to the departed from their living relations. Honor your departed loved ones today by placing on your altar such astral gifts as "hell money," which is available in Asian stores and is burned for the dead. Decorate the altar with pomegranates and poppies to let Persephone know that she is not forgotten and that Demeter is coming to visit. If you wish, "become" Demeter by wearing a black veil, and sit at your altar to relay messages from survivors to their departed loved ones. |
