Color of the day: White Incense of the day: Rose Incense of the day: Rose The ancient Romans honored Parentalia, a nine-day festival that commenced on this day to remember one's dead parents. During this time, families visited tombs to make offerings of food, flowers, or wine. Sometimes, and sadly, when someone we love passes away we take little time to grieve and heal. We wish we shared more time together or told them that we cherished them. This is particularly true for parents. When they depart, we may feel guilt for our lack of appreciation. These feelings retard the grieving process. To help the healing, find an item that the person wore in contact with his or her skin, like jewelry or a small piece of clothing. Light a small candle in a bowl. Write down something you wish you had communicated to that person. Burn the paper with your written message in the flame and imagine the words being delivered to your loved one. Keep the personal memento close to you, either in your purse or on your person, until you feel the healing begin. |
