Color of the day: White Incense of the day: Marjoram February is a month of extremes. It begins with the sabbat of Imbolc, has a romantic celebration of Valentines day mid-month, and just to keep us on our toes, February ends with an extra day some years. February is a magic in-between time where anything can happen. Often, the most brutal of winter storms occur now, and even though we get caught up in the romance of the middle of the month, and the revelry of Mardi Gras, spring can seem far away. But the light increases every day and we should remember that February is all about the light, possibilities, and the hope of new life to come. Deities associated with the month are the Celtic goddess Brigid and the Greek deities Eros and Aphrodite. Folks born in the month of February are assigned the violet and the primrose. The violet's magical qualities include faery magic and good luck and cheer, while the primrose has the enchanting qualities of protection and love. The amethyst is the birthstone for the month of February. A very popular stone with most magic users, the amethyst's magical properties include protection from manipulative magic and the power to enhance personal protection and your own spell casting. - Ellen Dugan
On this date in 1865, the 13th Amendment that outlawed slavery was signed by President Lincoln. In 1948, President Harry Truman signed the bill declaring today as National Freedom Day.
Today, cast a spell for your own freedom. Ask yourself: What am I enslaved to? Where do I feel bound? What hold me back, or limits me?
Write the answers down on a piece of paper. Over the sink or toilet bowl, burn the paper on a small plate. As the paper burns, affirm your freedom by saying:
No one owns me. I am free to be who I choose to be. I am free from fear and captivity. I am free to live peacefully.
When the flame dies down, let the ashes cool. Pour them into your palm, gently rubbing both hands together, dissolving the ashes.
Carefully, blow the last bits into the sink or toilet, and brush you hands together. Affirm by saying: Done. |
