A Poppet Spell for Spring

Incense of the day:  Sage
 
Poppets and dolls have been used in magic since ancient times. And, since today is the Doll Festival in Japan, this spell is appropriate for today. Poppets were once used in spells to encourage spring to return.
To do this, make a poppet using any green fabric. Before sewing the poppet closed, fill it with plant materials associated with growth and fertility. Apple seeds, nuts, oak twigs, grasses, and pine needles are some good choices.
Whatever materials you use, make sure you use three different varieties. After you've closed the poppet, use a fabric marker to enhance it with symbols of abundance and good fortune. These could include a Sun or star shape, male and female symbols, or a simple sketch depicting a sheaf or grain. When finished, release the poppet into a stream or river. Breathe deeply and visualize the world becoming green again.
