Today, Indonesia celebrates the too-brief yet poignant and culture-changing life of Princess Raden Ajeng Kartini. Born on this day in 1879, she opened a school and began educating girls, something that was unheard of at the time. In fact, Indonesian girls were forbidden to leave their homes before marriage.
Honor Princess Kartini today, further her ongoing legacy of feminism and human rights, and bring her activist spirit into your heart and life by lighting a white candle in her honor. Relax, breathe, close your eyes, and envision the bright white light of peace, kindness, and liberation emanating from your heart and expanding until it surrounds the planet.
