Everyone needs to get away once in a while and be solitary. Everyone needs to take time and just be still-to just BE. If you are a primary caregiver, a weekend away every few months is a healthy respite. Take these opportunities and collect items for remembrance bags or memory jars. Pack self-seal plastic bags of various sizes, small lidded jars, and square scraps of fabric. Be on the lookout for found items that hold special meaning. A trip to the sea or lake may yield a pretty shell or tumbled glass, some sand, or a small piece of driftwood. Look for unusual stones, flowers, or leaves along a hiking path. Receipts, a bit of earth, business cards...any little bit may be the right ingredient.
On a recent trip to a rural area, I discovered five feathers by my car. Another trip yielded a tiny pine cone out of a bowl of potpourri in my room. (Be careful not to plunder-that would bring bad energy.)
Using your travel altar kit, cleanse and bless the items. With intention, place them in the jar or plastic bag, or gather the fabric into a pouch with ribbon. Take advantage of the solitude to spark your creative fire and write out a spell. Be sure to identify the contents and the date with a decorative label or tag. Hang up your item as a reminder of your trip, or store in a cool, dark space where the contents will quietly give off their power. After a few years, bury the item.
