A Prayer to Shango

Color of the day:  Yellow
Incense of the day:  Eucalyptus

In the Santeria pantheon, Shango is the orisha of fire, lightning, and thunder. His colors are red and white: red for passion and white for peace. Today, on Shango's day, restore your equilibrium by crafting a bracelet to carry his spirit with you. String an equal number of red and white beads on a length of jelly cord to fit your wrist. As you string the beads and tie the cord to connect them (make sure your bracelet is a never-ending circle of alternating beads), call to him:

Lord of lightning And the calm of the storm, Shango, bestow your blessings on me.

It is important to leave an offering for an orisha when you ask for his or her help. Thank Shango by leaving one or more of his favorite foods out on a red and white cloth: bananas, okra, or a bowl of red palm oil.
