Seven Sleepers

Color of the day:  Ivory
Incense of the day:  Sage

Today, the Catholic Church honors the Seven Sleepers. According to Islamic and Christian legend, the Seven Sleepers were persecuted Christians who escaped martyrdom in a unique way: they went to sleep in a cave near Ephesus and woke up 300 years later, thinking they had slept for merely a single night. (Today in Finland, their slumber is commemorated by the different but derivative holiday National Sleepy Head Day.)

Petition the Seven Sleepers for deep and restful sleep by placing seven cups of chamomile tea on your altar. Then tie the following seven herbs into a bundle with a scrap of cotton, or add them to an eye pillow or drawstring bag: chamomile, passionflower, valerian, lavender, lemon balm, skullcap, and hops. Clear any clutter out of your bedroom, wash your sheets, and make sure the atmosphere is restful and calm. Sleep with the herb bundle near you so you can inhale the scent.
