First Winter Harvest

Color of the day:  Rose
Incense of the day:  Violet

Sukkot, which ends today, is a harvest festival that dates back to the books of Exodus and Leviticus. Today is also the traditional Germanic Winter’s Day, for in October the energetic tides of the dark night of the year are getting noticeably stronger. Today is a good day to think about what you might do with your winter.

Place symbols of harvest (perhaps a mini-ear of corn or some wheat) and winter (a crone goddess, amethyst, onyx) on the north side of your altar. Recite this invocation:

Preparing for winter’s season today,
I treasure my harvest and look ahead.
Come, dear winter, bring
peace with your holiday,
For we know in time will rise
what once seemed dead.

Speak your wishes for the coming season of rest and regeneration to the crone and keep your symbols on your altar until Imbolc. Use what you learn to welcome whatever winter may bring.
