LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

Calling the Witch Ancestors

Color of the day:  Amber
Incense of the day:  Frankincense

While modern jack-o’-lanterns ar e made from pumpkins, they were originally made from hollowedout turnips. This spell honors the past and builds strength for the future.

Gather these items:
* 1 turnip
* 1 black candle
* 1 mini pumpkin
* 1 white candle
* Incense (equal parts anise, coriander, and cardamom) and a censer

On a table, place the turnip to the left, with the black candle behind it. Place the pumpkin to the right, with the white candle behind it and the censer (unlit) between the candles. Think of the witches of the past who paved the way for our modern practice. Focus on asking them for guidance and help in advancing your craft. Safely light the black candle, then the white candle and incense, saying:

To build a bond and call
on your power, hidden
company of witches past.

Grant me guidance and
strength this hour, I call those
before, this spell I cast.

For highest good, joyous and
free, as I will, so mote it be!

Snuff out the candles and incense. Use the turnip and pumpkin as decorations to remind you of ancestor magic.
