LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

Essential Petition Magic

Color of the day:  Amber
Incense of the day:  Juniper

This is one of those classic techniques that everyone should have in their magical repertoire. A petition spell is, in essence, a magical method of requesting assistance or intervention from an otherworldly (usually divine) power. The basic ingredients for this spell are a pen, a clean, new piece of paper, a candle, and a fireproof vessel such as a cauldron.

Before attempting a petition spell, think deeply about what you are seeking and whom you are asking for help. Craft a carefully worded intention on the paper, asking for exactly what you want (adding “without harm” or “for the highest good” for safety) and addressing it to your chosen being (a deity, ancestor, spirit guide, etc.). Light the candle while calling upon the being, then read your petition aloud. Follow this by carefully lighting the paper in the candle flame and dropping it into the cauldron to burn out.
