Books and Us

Color of the day:  Silver
Incense of the day:  Clary sage

The first book printed in English, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, appeared on this date in 1476. It was printed and sold by William Caxton, a merchant who brought the first printing press to England.

Books printed on real paper seem to be disappearing today. Devices seem handier. Nevertheless, if our civilization is to survive, we need real books and libraries. Cast your circle and state your intention to protect books and libraries. Appeal to the goddesses and gods of wisdom:

O Great and Wise Ones Seshat and Thoth,
Athena and Tir, Sarasvati and Ogma
Step forward today.
Bring your powers both magical and practical,
And share those powers with us who love and read books.
Help us tell the world about library cards and
Great novels and the works of philosophers, Works of history and social progress.
Help us preserve our books about magic and our holy days and rituals.
So mote it be. So must it be!
