Beltane Garden Spell

Color of the day:  Crimson
Incense of the day:  Myrrh

In many places, this is the peak of spring planting season. Fall-planted flowers bloom in spring, "as early as the ground can be worked" seeds sprout, and you can start planting things that need warmer feet—especially if you pop a cover over them to trap the sun's heat and keep off late frosts. Even if you don't have room for a whole garden, you can usually manage a window box or a pot on a porch.

For this spell, you'll need one or more garden stakes, some twine or wire, garden pins, and vine seeds. They can be as small as popsicle sticks for a potted plant or as large as bean poles for a country garden. Fasten four to six pieces of line to each stake, plant the stake, and pin down the lines around it. Plant the seeds. Then say:

Maypole in disguise,
Find where power lies.
Draw it up and draw it in,
Beltane magic stir and spin
As energy flows,
So the garden grows.
