Safe Travel Spells and a New Book
Woo-hoo! Another new book has hit the Llewellyn warehouse and my desk! It’s a new and super-useful book chock full of spells (and cats) by Deborah Blake, Everyday Witch A to Z Spellbook: Wonderfully Witchy Blessings, Charms & Spells. As indicated by the title, spells are arranged alphabetically and cover the gamut from Abstinence to Zzzzz’s. (Interesting how both of those are about sleeping through the night… hee hee.)
I thought I’d share a spell with you today, so I chose the spell for flying, since I’ll be flying to St. Louis tomorrow to attend the St. Louis Pagan Picnic with another wonderful author, Ellen Dugan. (More on her in just a bit.) Check out who’s presenting! (Yes, me!) Come by if you’re in the St. Louis area. Without any further ado, on to the spell for safe flying by Deborah.
Flying
Goal: Travel safely by plane
Optional extras: White candle
Notes: This is a simple prayer for safe travel by plane. You can do the spell the night before traveling and/or write it on a piece of paper and place it on your person. This prayer can also be said for someone else.
God and goddess
Hear my prayer
Guard my journey
Through the air
Troubles few
And travel smooth
Ease my path
And spirits sooth
From the time
I leave the ground
Keep protection
All around
Landing gentle
At the end
Guard me ‘til
I’m home again
It is always a pleasure to work with Deborah, and we like it when she gratefully writes real nice things on her blog about the folks she works with here at Llewellyn when her finished books are delivered to her! Aw, what a sweetheart.
Now, I mentioned I’d be getting back to Ellen Dugan. Besides doing two presentations at the aforementioned Pagan Picnic (and being on the panel for one of mine), she will be doing a book signing this Saturday (June 12) at the gorgeous Missouri Botanical Garden. Why? Because she’s a Master Gardener, of course! I won’t get into the rest of the fun we’ll be having this weekend, as I don’t want to make my poor readers any more jealous than they already may be. Here is Ellen’s travel spell from her latest release, Book of Witchery: Spells, Charms & Correspondences for Every Day of the Week. It’s supposed to be performed on a Monday.
Moonstone Travel Spell
This spell will call on Meness, the patron moon god of travelers. I suggest setting up this spell in the evening.
Find a spot that faces east or that is illuminated by moonlight. Or try setting this up under the moon, in the garden, or on the porch or your outside deck. Get some atmosphere going! Try using a scented candle, such as jasmine or gardenia, to coordinate the fragrance with the moon’s energies.
Gather the following items:
- A photo of your destination, your travel itinerary, or your airline tickets
- 4 small tumbled moonstones
- A scented white votive candle and holder
- A lighter or matches
Set up this spell on a safe, flat surface. Light the candle and place it in the holder. Place your paperwork/tickets or itinerary to one side of the candle. Arrange the four stones in a circle around the holder. Place your hands on the travel paperwork, and ground and center. Then repeat the following spell three times:
Meness, patron of travelers, watch over me
Whether I travel in the air, on land, or sea
Like a talisman in my pocket a stone will I tuck
Moonstones do encourage a safe journey and bring good luck.
Take one of the stones and keep it in your pocket while you travel. You may close the spell by saying:
For the good of all, with harm to none
By the moon and stars, this spell is done.
Gather up your papers and tuck them away for your trip. Allow the candle to burn out on its own.
So…happy travels to me, and happy spellcasting to you! And a big thanks to both Deborah and Ellen for being such lovely and wonderful people to work with, and good friends to boot!
We loved having you with us this weekend Elysia! Safe travels back to Minnesota Today!
Blessed be, Ellen
Merry Meet,
This is my 1st time writing you,
I just have 1 question. I was born and raised thankfully in the Pagan life style.
And i really enjoy your most if your books. What i don’t understand is i bought a book, Witches Spells-a-day Almanac.
And what I don’t understand is why it starts on Jan 1st 2011? because that is not the 1st day of the year.
Blessed Be
Kelly
I read to first prayer for my partner while he travels ( i constantly worry for him ) and it really helped me feel more at peace thanks so much for sharing
Blessed be !
