Signs of Spring
Today most of the snow is gone, although there are still piles here and there. The small lake near my house is still frozen over.
This image is from the forthcoming Gaian Tarot (available Fall 2011). Here in the Midwest, we eagerly look for robins at the end of winter. They are a harbinger of spring and are always a welcome sight. The eggs are a lovely blue color, like the ones in this card.
Instead of Wands, Swords, Cups, and Pentacles, this deck focuses and the basic elemental energies of the natural world. The suits are Fire, Air, Water, and Earth.
The 4 of Air, pictured here, shows a time of incubation. On the outside, it looks as if nothing much is going on. But inside…miracles are occurring! New life generates within each delicate shell. Without dedicated care and protection, these eggs will not hatch.
Baby birds breaking out of shells is a very appropriate metaphor for Spring, especially if the season has to fight through the icy shell of winter. It seems like it takes great strength to overcome such coldness, to thrust new life in a landscape of death.
What eggs are you incubating? What amazing miracles are you nurturing? What are you hoping will hatch soon in your life?
What cards do you think represent spring?
A very nice image. I like the sound of a tarot pack that uses the elements. Although no matter what new packs I buy, somehow I always end up going back to the RWS when I do readings to bring clarity to myself and Osho when I do readings for others. But I like to try new packs because they help deepen my understanding of Tarot.
I’m incubating so many eggs at the moment (all that Aries energy in the sky!)that I think I should be an ostrich (The males incubate the eggs at night so the females can rest!)
Judy (South Africa)
Lovely deck. I’d use this for myself I think, rather than for readings for others.
