The Witchy Tarot is very interesting deck. Many people discount it as being too young or too cute. Make no mistake…just because all the witches pictured in these cards are young and cute, it does not mean they are not smart and powerful.

The court cards are handled very cleverly here. Instead of the traditional Page, Knight, Queen, and King, the ranks are Celebration, Moon, Goddess, and Trial. The Celebration of Flames (roughly equivalent to the Page of Wands) reminds me of the 4 of Wands. In this case, it is Beltane. May first. Even though spring “arrives” on the equinox, it is a cold, fickle, ugly kind of spring. It is “meteorological” spring. Real spring, when the air is warm and flowers are blooming comes a little later. Here in Minnesota, even May 1 is a bit early. But at least things a bit less soggy by then.

Beltane, or May Day, is a celebration of the epitome of spring energy. In Wicca, the God and Goddess are young and in love and all is right with the world. The energy is lusty and vivacious. Optimism about the future combines with a solid sense of being in the present moment.

We are heading toward May 1st. What are you planning on doing with that amazing energy?
