Numerically, 2020 is a 4 year, which is the number of foundations. The 4 frequency can show us where we are out of alignment, helping us recognize what isn’t working in our lives and our world. If we can bear the discomfort of that knowledge, a healing crisis can become the breakthrough we need to put us firmly on a better and brighter path.

The base chakra and Kali Ma—the divine goddess who governs the base chakra—share sacred resonance with the number 4.

The base chakra is the place where we store and experience our sense of belonging to Earth, and to each other, as part of a sacred ecosystem. The base chakra is also home to our collective beliefs about fear, race, finances, and tribe, including how we define and understand our communities and how we relate to those that we see as not belonging to our particular group.

This year has brought up many of these concerns for us as individuals and as a collective. Our choice now is how we deal with these issues and the goddess Kali, with her complex, fierce, and yet compassionate nature, holds a sacred key to healing for us all.

Kali may seem frightening in her ferocity, yet she is the kind of divine badass that we need—and want—on our side. She is like the monster Sully in the film Monsters, Inc.; he seems scary at first but turns out to be a force for good once you get to know him.

Kali is not known for her subtlety. We need her when we finally realize that we cannot self-guide our way out of some mess or other, and only higher wisdom and creative inspiration can help us find our way. She consumes our attachment to the past, freeing us to begin anew.

Kali’s energy is powerful. When our minds and hearts need substantial spiritual protection to overcome the compelling workings of fearful ego, she is there for us. Her wrathful appearance may initially cause us to shy away from her, but our inner wisdom can recognize that her fierceness repels negativity and our hearts are safe with her.

Her grace ensures transformation. You cannot go back to how things were after a Kali initiation. It would be like the butterfly trying to go back to being a caterpillar. Kali is a force for liberating change that cannot be undone. This is why we need courage in our hearts, and trust too, to connect with her and find our way from fear to faith so we can accept the spiritual challenge that 2020 is offering our entire human family.

Kali can help us find that faith. A prayer to her is, “Kali, Beloved Mother of Fierce Wisdom, bless all hearts in need with your liberating and merciful grace.”
