Tarot Priestess Ritual of Intiation
Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Leeza Robertson, author of several books and decks, including Tarot Court Cards for Beginners, and Tarot Reversals for Beginners, The Soul Cats Tarot, and the new Tarot Priestess.
The Path to the Goddess always starts with some form of initiation. Be it water (cups), earth (pentacles), fire (wands) or air (swords), the Goddess picks a way for you to step up and start your journey to her. This is your point of entry to her temple. The place you take your very first step, both physically and spiritually along the path of the tarot priestess.
To start your own initiation, pick up your deck and divide it into 6 parts:
Part One: The Major Arcana
Part Two: The Court Cards
Part Three: The Suit of Cups, Ace through Ten
Part Four: The Suit of Pentacles, Ace through Ten
Part Five: The Suit of Swords, Ace through Ten
Part Six: The Suit of Wands, Ace through Ten
The other thing you will need is a pendulum; any sort will do.
For now, put your Major and Court Piles to the side; you will use them later. Now you will be left with four piles of cards, one for each of the suits. Pick up your pendulum and hold it to your heart; take 3 deep and slow breaths as you ask the question, “Goddess, in which of your temples will I be starting my priestess journey?”
Now, take your pendulum and ask it to show you a “yes” and a “no” motion. This normally means your pendulum will swing or move differently based on the answer it is giving you.
Once you know what is a “yes” and what is a “no,” hold your pendulum over your four piles and see which temple is the one that gives you the “yes” from your pendulum. When you have your “yes,” move the other three piles of cards to the side.
Putting your pendulum away now, pick up your yes pile of cards and give them a shuffle and draw one card. This is your initiation point, your first step along the path of the Tarot Priestess.
To deepen this reading, you can select a card from the Major Arcana pile to see what gateway you are being initiated through. There are three gateways for the Tarot Priestess to explore; finding the one you are starting on may assist you with your initiation.
Lastly, you can select a court card and see which role the Goddess wishes you to play inside the temple she just initiated you into. Each of the court cards represents a different stage of growth, knowledge, and responsibility.
Everyone starts at a different point depending on what lesson the Goddess wants you to learn first. So pull out your journal and answer the following questions:
- What gift will this initiation give me?
- What will I have to let go of to fully accept this initiation?
- How will starting my journey here assist me in my daily life?
Now that you have started your journey with the Goddess and set your first steps along the Tarot Priestess path, think about giving a small prayer to the Goddess to wrap up your session. Place your initiation card on your altar, light a candle, and give a small prayer of thanks, staying in a meditative state for approximately two minutes.
Congratulations! You have had your first Tarot Priestess Initiation!
