Do you scour the internet? I’m a regular internet user but not an “I’ve gotta be online every minute of the day” type of person. Even so, because I’m interested in Tantra and sex magick, I often come upon sites and pages that have a bit of internet slang on them: NSFW. Have you seen it? Do you know what it means?
Not Safe For Work
Usually this code is attached to a page that is going to have some sort of nudity. It may be as benign as a woman’s breasts. Although I certainly have nothing against breasts, I have to acknowledge that there are some people in a work situation who may be offended by them and even consider it sexual harassment if I were to have them on my computer monitor. Such a person could consider it worthwhile to sue a corporation if they happen to see that on a monitor as they go walking by, so it’s safer for a company to simply ban anything like that. NSFW is a warning to protect corporations from lawsuits, so it’s understandable.
But NSFW can apply to more than breasts. It can also apply to words. I have been involved in the metaphysical community long enough to have known people who have been passed over for advancement, experienced prejudice, or even been fired from a job because they have some sort of occult symbol on their desk or for looking at an occult-oriented website while they’re off the clock (on a break) but at work.
Have you had this experience? I’ve been very lucky in that I’ve had jobs where this hasn’t been a problem. What about you?
