Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Kate Osborne, author of the new Goddess Resolution.

Kate OsborneThe element of water is sacred; all ancient belief systems understood its ability to cleanse, sustain, and transform. The mighty Norse Sea Goddess Ran understood this better than most and wielded this power for both physical triumphs in battle and emotional ones when it came to matters of the heart, in the protection of her daughters. By calling on her today, you can open the floodgates to this element and create something tangible for you to use whenever needed—sacred water. To do this, you will need a vessel for the water (this can be a small bowl, a mug, or a small container), a tablespoon of salt (ordinary table salt is acceptable) and access to tap water. Begin by filling the vessel ¾ full with tap water. Next, dip your index finger into the water and say, “Behold this water, giver and carrier of life. I ask that it be blessed, purified and made sacred. In the name of Ran, in love, light, peace, and trust.” Next, cup your hand over the tablespoon of salt and say, “Behold the salt, preserver of life. I ask that it be blessed and purified. In the name of Ran, in love, light, peace, and trust.” Next, add a pinch of the salt to the water and mix them with your index finger, stirring in a clockwise direction. When thoroughly mixed, say, “For, as the water is sacred and the salt is sacred, may their union be blessed, purified, and consecrated. In the name of Ran, by the power of the elements, may this now be sacred water to be used in goodness, love, light, peace, and trust. So mote it be.”

You can use this type of sacred water by dabbing it on your skin for emotional stability or to make yourself more robust energetically. Start at the temples, then throat, heart chakra, wrists and sacrum. Using sacred waters is not about quelling our emotions but channeling them for a more productive purpose. For example, feelings of hurt, anger, and resentment are accessible for a reason. They are a physical way of processing difficult experiences. These emotions are potent and can be used to create just as much as they may be used destructively. When we can channel these torrents of emotions more effectively, they can be very potent forces of positive change. It is all about coming to terms with the events that trigger these emotions and their reactions and allowing them to be expressed safely rather than be suppressed and become a danger to ourselves and others around us. What you choose to do with your feelings determines whether they have a destructive or constructive effect. But continually suppressing negative emotions is like trying to hold back the floodgates, and eventually, this takes its toll. So to cope better, just like the waters of the Earth, we must let ourselves ebb and flow.
