I Second that Emotion
In my previous post, I described the three necessities of grey magick. At the end of that post, I asked if anyone thought I had missed something. Several people, here and on my Facebook account, felt that emotion was important and that I had left it out.
Well, yes and no.
It’s absolutely true that I didn’t mention emotions per se. However, I most certainly did stress and include the concept of the importance of using all your emotions in Modern Magick. I gave only the briefest description of the three necessities in my previous blog post, but certainly using all your emotions is an aspect of what I called “The Second Necessity,” knowing how to generate and control magickal energy.
And speaking of Modern Magick…
Modern Magick—3rd Edition
As those of you who have been following this blog know, in just a few short months there will be a new edition of Modern Magick. It has about 40% new material and as many as 150 new illustrations. I’m incredibly excited about it and can’t wait! I want a copy!
As to the illustrations. For the original edition I just wrote down ideas of what I wanted. Since publication, I’ve learned a lot about graphic arts so I was able to actually show the excellent Llewellyn art department my ideas for the illustrations I’d like to see used in the book. In the coming months, I’ll be including some of my original art here. To start, here is my original illustration for the line in the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram that reads, “For about me flames the pentagram.” For you “techies” out there, this was done using the following applications: Quark Xpress, E Frontier Poser, Adobe Photoshop, and Alien Skin Eye Candy.
Let me know what you think of my original illustration!
Do You Live In Southern California?
If you life in the Southern California area, I want to give you a bit of a head’s up. This Friday, April 9, I’m scheduled to be part of a panel being held for the Philosophy Club at the Rancho Cucamonga Campus of Chafee College. The panel, which starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Physical Sciences building room 112, is on various ideas of the afterlife as held by different spiritual traditions. I’m scheduled to represent “Earth Religions,” which means I’ll also have to discuss what Earth Religions are and how they came to their concepts of the afterlife (of which there are several). If you come to the panel, be sure to say hello.
In the meantime, I know what I’m going to say, what would you say?
