Lo Scarabeo 2013
Last week Andrea and Mario (from Lo Scarabeo) were in our offices. While here, they have lots of meetings and business. They have been our partners in bringing excellent tarot to the world for over ten years. Every year we look forward to their new ideas. At this year’s meeting, I stealthily used my iPhone to take some super secret photos so I could share some of sneak peeks with you!
Here is the beginning of the presentation.
Book of Shadows, Volume 2: So Below
Here is one I’m particularly excited about. This year, LS is releasing Book of Shadows, Volume 1: As Above, which is a non-traditional tarot deck based on pagan/Wiccan teachings and beliefs. It is the theory. In 2013 they are releasing Book of Shadows, Volume 2: So Below, which is a traditional tarot that mirrors the first in many ways by showing how magical and spiritual teachings are manifested in everyday, modern life. I think of the two-deck set as a Hierophant card expanded. To me, the Hierophant card is all about how we walk our talk.
Mibramig Magical Tarot
This next one got a lot of great reactions. It is both cute (like the Magical Forest) and a little strange (like the Deviant Moon). It is called the Mibramig Magical Tarot. Mibramig is the artist’s name.
In this picture it is hard to decide what is cuter…the deck or Andrea.
Here are some more images:
3-D
I love our big presentation meetings. How many places can a person work where tarot cards and art and such are scattered all over the table?
Wait a minute! What does that slide say? 3-D???? There is going to be a 3-D tarot deck? Why yes, there is! Lo Scarabeo is so adventurous! I’m so glad we work with them and get to be a part of this. And if you think 3-D is cutting edge, wait until you hear what else they are working on!
Tarot Illuminati
Before that, though, here is the deck that is generating the most excitement for next year:
This deck is breathtaking. We’ll share more later, as this deck definitely deserves its own post.
Black Cats
And now for the cat lovers…the Black Cats Tarot. How many cat tarots are too many? Ha! Never too many. Especially when each one has its own distinct personality. The Black Cats Tarot is definitely not the Tarot of the White Cats or the Pagan Cats. It has it’s own purr-sonality!
Something new
We then got a sneak peek at another deck with a fascinating design element. All the cards are designed in pairs as part of a larger image and then split into two individual cards. Those cards, then, when they show up in a reading have a special connection. I apologize for the quality of the images. As I said…I was trying to be stealthy!
A New App
One final bit of news…Lo Scarabeo is working on an app that will change the way we think about and use tarot apps forever. It’s very exciting and very different from anything that has been done before. It utilizes technology in a way that seems like magic.
Food and Fun
After the meeting, it was time to have in the Twin Cities with our guests.
Andrea, who is also a game designer, wanted to go to our excellent comic and gaming stores, including the Source in Roseville, MN. We were very happy to find both of our products there. They had two of Andrea’s games and my Steampunk Tarot. They had a collection of other Lo Scarabeo decks (including the Silicon Dawn Tarot) and Llewellyn’s Gaian Tarot and Wizards Tarot.
Later, Andrea and I had fun on the library grounds.
In the evening, we took Andrea and Mario to the Bulldog NE, one of our favorite places. I think Mario liked his dinner!
We love working together!
Ohhhhh… these all look great! I’m very excited about the Illuminati but will probably get the Book of Shadows Vol. 2 and possibly the Black Cats. Mwah!
*but will probably get the Book of Shadows Vol. 2 and possibly the Black Cats ***TOO!* obviously WILL get the illuminati. 😛
Hello Barbara,
On the beginning of the presentation there is a yellow picture on the right hand side. I’m very drawn to that picture and am hoping it’s a new tarot deck.
Thanks!
Diane G.
That looked like an exciting presentation! I will defintely be waiting in line for the Book of Shadows!
@ Diane: the yellow picture is one card from the upcoming Black Cat Tarot deck!
@ Barbara: the Mibramig is cuter than I am, for sure 🙂
3-D Tarot and Tarot Illuminati as well as As Above Tarot, those I’m looking forward.
Yea!!! Lucia Mattioli’s new deck is in the 2013 shute!!!
So excited for Tarot Illuminati!
I love the black cats Tarot! Can’t wait for this one!
Crossing fingers the Tarot Illuminati’s card stock quality will be as good as the imagery.
Has the 3D deck been released? What’s the name of this deck?
It has been released! You can order it here. 🙂
