About the Cards in Your Reading

Four of Swords
In the Past position
Four of Swords
A card in the left position indicates what has happened to affect your question in the past.

Meaning: You need a time-out. Retreating is fine, but do so with the intention of returning lest you become lost to your thoughts. Do not be undone by your own mind. You have gone through a lot, but know also that you are incredibly resilient. Why not take a vacation, go for a weekend away, write lists, externalize and process the situation? Mark them on paper and burn them as offerings to the sky; watch them leave you, but do not dismiss their validity as aspects of the human condition. Ask for help. This situation may actually need someone outside to help you through this. There is no shame in wanting or needing help.

Knight of Shields
In the Present position
Knight of Shields
A card in the middle position indicates what is affecting your question at this time.

Meaning: This card implies an individual who on one hand is devout and deeply loyal, but on the other hand there is no go in him. This person seems disinterested in anything beyond what he or she perceives as important and worthy. However, if this card appears in a relationship-based reading, it implies that this personality brings efficiency and routine to a relationship and is wonderfully supportive but may not have the same gumption as the querent. Has the relationship gotten to the point where boredom has set in? If it has, it's time to re-evaluate the parameters of the relationship. You may be too different or may need to cut each other some slack.

The Shadow
In the Future position
The Shadow
A card in the right position indicates your questions future.

Meaning: This can be a hard card to swallow, and its position this late in the Major Arcana can be perplexing, but the trap of materialism and the allure of gain can overcome even the most devout and committed of spiritual seekers. This card implies that there is illusion rife within this question and that things are governed by the basic needs that so many humans crave: money, sex, power, and gain. But know also that sexual energy and spiritual energy cannot be separated. In fact, there is no separation between physiology and spirituality. The querent may feel trapped, but it is likely that the trap is of their own doing or governed by the illusion of bondage, material gain, and ignorance, all of which can lead to frustration and helplessness. Perhaps the querent has spent too many years saying yes rather than learning the power of no.
