| Legend has it that if you want a wish fulfilled, visit the grave of Vodou priestess Marie Laveau in New Orleans. Knock three times, speak your desire, then mark three Xs on the tomb to seal the deal. (Don't actually try this, though-it's illegal.)
Invoke the power of the Vodou Queen with a petition candle. Carve three large Xs into a white candle while reciting your request aloud. Dress the candle with Van Van oil, then rub black glitter and crushed chili pepper (for fidelity and to "heat things up") into your carving. Light the candle, repeating your petition one last time. Let the candle burn down completely. Scrape any remaining wax, pepper, and glitter out of the holder, and bury the lot with these words: "Thank you, Mama Marie, for your intercession." When your desire comes to pass, leave a coin where you buried the wax. |
