The moon hasn’t always belonged to goddesses. There have also been many lunar gods, whose names you can find online. Perhaps one such god is the Man in the Moon. I know of two songs about him, one by Jerry Herman (in the musical Mame) and the other by Bilbo Baggins. And Genghis Khan traced his ancestry back to a moon god. It’s time to make friends with the Man in the Moon. How did he get there? One folktale says that he is a wanderer, doomed to forever circle the earth. He obviously sees a lot. What can he do for us? According to several traditions, he watches over us. Go outside tonight, look up, and speak to him: Old Man in the Moon, I see you up there |
