Many Chinese consider the peony flower a symbol of good fortune. Since ancient times, peonies are have been associated with romance, beauty, and the female gender. It is believed that peonies keep romance and love alive. Ancient Chinese texts mention an emperor's concubine named Yang Kuai Fei who was consider the most beautiful woman in all of China. The emperor was enthralled by her throughout her life and decreed that her chambers be filled with peonies each day. While some cultures associate peonies with death, this flower
is a potent ingredient in spells for love or attracting a soulmate. When gathering materials for a love ritual, add fresh or dried peony petals or use them as decoration during a candlelit dinner for two. Peonies can also be burnt in the censer when performing a spell that requires the burning of gum resins.
