Spell: Learning to Trust Your Senses

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Color of the day: Turquoise
Incense of the day: Nutmeg

On a solid white scarf or strip of fabric, write out "I do not need my eyes to see what is around me." Tie this around your head with the words facing you and then tie on a second, darker scarf. Practice blindly getting a sense for your environment alone at first. Explore your home and feel with your hands the shape, size, and texture of things and where they are in relation to your body. This exercise builds the power of the senses and helps the mind operate on a more astral level. In many ways, the eyes attach us to physical reality and can bind the other senses with overstimulation. Once you feel adept at defining and traveling within your physical space mentally, try doing small tasks blindfolded. As you perform actions, visualize them in your mind. Learn to rely less on your eyes as a sensory faculty and more on your other senses. If persistent, you may even delight in venturing out into safely enclosed spaces, such as a backyard or fenced garden. As your skill improves, your fingers will become adept at creating mental images. When you have explored this for yourself with some success, try sharing this exercise with a magical partner or partners. Take turns wearing the blindfold to strengthen the bonds of trust and ensure personal safety if you wish to perform this exercise in open, populated, or wild spaces.
