Before you plant your garden this spring, take time to thank Mother Earth. Begin by thinking about the blessings Mother Earth bestows upon us. We abuse and poison her, but still she sustains us.
After your garden is plowed, kneel directly on the freshly plowed earth in simple ritual. Let your knees sink into the earth. Crumble the soil with your fingers; let it fall to the ground. You've done more than just prepare the seedbed, and you've done more than connect with the earth. You're connecting with the Wheel of the Year and the rhythm of the seasons. In an act of purification, sprinkle the soil with a few drops of vinegar. And now, my fellow gardener, you've learned one of the secrets only a gardener knows: We don't control the earth; we are partners with the earth. |
