The words memory and remember both spring from common Latin roots meaning "to be mindful" or "to call something to mind." Use this idea of intentional recall to start a gratitude basket.
Find an attractive lidded basket, box, or other container. Cut long, thick strips of paper, each about 1/2 x 6 inches. Every day date one of the strips and either write something on it that you're grateful for or write a short gratitude charm. (For wonderfully aesthetic results, work with pretty papers and brilliantly colored inks.) Twist the strip around a pencil until it forms a coil, then add the coiled paper strip to your gratitude basket. From time to time, or whenever you need a spiritual boost, take a strip from the basket, unroll it, and read, replacing it when done. May these bursts of grateful memory inspire your mood and lift your spirits! |
