Traditionally on this day, maple trees are tapped and maple syrup production begins. Sap has begun to rise, and now the earth awakens! This ritual will allow you to help the earth awaken from its winter rest, and will help awaken your winter-weary spirit too.
First gather some soil in a flowerpot. If the ground is too frozen, then use potting soil. Place the potted soil before a fire or a lit orange candle. Sprinkle the soil lightly with water. Hold your hands over the soil, gaze at the fire or burning candle, and say: "Spring will come and summer too, Earth spirit, hear the words I speak to you. Cold and silent you have laid, Arise now from your winter grave. Let the life spirit in every plant and seed begin to swell, Sustain us all, and keep us well." End the ritual by scattering the soil outside. |
