LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

Spell: All Creatures of the World Meditation

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

On this day in 1975, endangered species were declared internationally protected. Species disappear every day, and millions have been lost. It can be overwhelming to contemplate our impact on the planet and its creatures.

This day is one to celebrate all of the world's creatures, the great and the small. Go into the woods or a meadow or park, and sit down to observe. Listen with your eyes closed. How many creatures can you hear? Then look around you and see how many diverse species there are: birds, rodents, insects. How many can you name? Notice if these creatures interact with you. Do the birds come closer? Do butterflies land on you? Do curious squirrels approach you wondering if you have food?

Find something wondrous in each creature you observe: their colorful wings or feathers, their sounds and songs, their graceful movements. Consider your relationship to these living beings you share space with.
