LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

Spell: Your Grimmerie

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

In the musical Wicked, the Grimmerie is the book that only Elphaba can read. In one scene, she picks it up, moves downstage away from unsympathetic characters, opens it at random, and recites a string of nonsense syllables that put wings on the monkeys. Traditional witches call this book a Book of Shadows.

We all need a Grimmerie in which we record the magical work we do, plus our thoughts and ideas about magic. Whether you use a journal with pages of real paper or put it on your phone, your Grimmerie must be confidential and protected. (Do not post it on social media.)

To charge your Grimmerie, hold it between your hands and visualize a stream of energy from your root chakra moving into the Grimmerie and enlivening it with basic, practical magic. Move up through your chakras, bringing the qualities of each one to your book. Finally, release the chakra energy and begin to write the first of the splendid ideas, spells, and other acts of magic you will record in your Grimmerie.
