Color of the day: Orange
Incense of the day: Basil Today is the birthday of the Chinese goddess Kwan Yin. Use this day to make your own gris-gris bag. In the New Orleans practice of Voudoun, the gris-gris bag is used for not only protection, but also to gain wealth and health. We see parallels to the gris-gris in many more mainstream home remedies, such as pouches with cotton balls dipped in camphor, mint, and ammonia that are worn around the neck until sickness goes away. To create your own gris-gris bag gather the following: a small square of red flannel, a black string, cayenne pepper, cotton balls dipped in oils of mint and eucalyptus, loose herbs, shells, a crow feather (if you can find one), crystals, and elements you consider sacred. Your items should be odd-numbered-that is, you must use five, seven, nine, or thirteen items in your bag. Place them all on the red flannel. Tie up the cloth into a bag. Wear your gris-gris around your neck or carry it in your hand or pocket, and feel your power surge. |
