Spell: Countdown to Samhain (or Any Event!)

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Countdown apps are all the rage, but you can go low-tech with a "countdown chain" imbued with spellcraft, correspondences, magical goals, and craft activities. Practice this now with a paper chain designed to prepare you for Samhain.

Choose paper in colors that are appropriate to the date or event. For Samhain, try black, silver, and orange. Cut a 1 x 4-inch strip for each countdown day. On each strip, write a charm, task, affirmation, or instruction. Here are some ideas:

* Pull a tarot card while reflecting on what Samhain will mean to you.
* Create a Samhain incense of sage, cinnamon, cloves, and resin.
* Carve a protective rune into a small pumpkin and leave on the front porch.
* Set up (or tidy up) an ancestor altar.

Staple the strips together, forming a chain, and tack it to the ceiling. Each day, undo a "link" and carry out the action. The chain will be gone on the day of your event, and you'll be ready for it!
