Spell: The Mysterious Lessons of Winter

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

In many locales there is a definite chill in the air. We crave warmth, color, and brightness, but often we see and feel the opposite. Today is the shortest day of the year. Witches realize the age-old battle between the Oak King and the Holly King is being acted out, ultimately leading to renewal and rebirth.

You can savor the stories of olden times, but participating in the drama of the day is even better. Dress your home for Yule! Gather holly, cedar, and pine clippings and set them out in a large circle on your dining room table. Follow the circular shape, inside and out, with tall green, white, and red pillar candles in holders. In the center, place an edible Yule log. (You can pick one up at a bakery or find a recipe online.) Invite guests to take in the symbols and scents of the Yule season with you. Light all the candles. Sip some wassail, nibble your goodies, and savor the mysterious lessons of winter.
