Spell: Gathering Herbs for Spellcraft

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Color of the day: Black
Incense of the day: Carnation

Herbs gathered under a particular phase of the Moon were supposed to be more efficacious in spell work and healing. Today, harvest, gather, or buy herbs that you would use in a waxing Moon context. Herbs of increase such as rosemary (sharpens mental faculties), basil (money), echinacea (boosts immunity), ginseng (sexuality) are some examples. If you grow your own herbs, cut them at dusk. If you are gathering wild herbs, give thanks to the earth for this "freebie" before harvesting. Do not cut any herbs on conserved or public lands where taking foliage is prohibited. If you buy herbs from a farmer's market, ask about the methods of growing, and buy organic if possible. Once your gathering is complete, at dusk take all your herbs and display them for the New Moon, feeling the power of the herbs increase. If you decide to dry the herbs rather than using them fresh, hang them in a warm, dry place, then place them in airtight containers in a dark pantry.
