LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

Spell: Dreidel Spinning Ritual

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Color of the day: Gold
Incense of the day: Coriander

Hanukkah is the Hebrew festival of lights. It lasts for eight days. Dreidel, a type of spinning top, is not only a favorite game at this time of year, but it is also an object rich in symbolism. We can use something similar for divination at this time of year. Get yourself some clay or colorful modeling compound. Form it into a cone with three flat sides near the top. Be sure to give it a handle in the center of the top so you can spin it. Paint three symbols or words on the sides-such as "yes," "no," and "maybe." When it is dry and ready to use, light at least eight candles around the table where you will play. Hold the top and ask your question. Then spin it to see what comes up.
