Color of the day: Gray
Incense of the day: Nutmeg Autumn is an excellent time for pruning of all kinds. As winter approaches, we get rid of things we don't need. We rake leaves to compost. We harvest the last of summer's herbs and dig up the ragged annuals, leaving the garden ready to rest. We trim awkward branches from the trees. Though often necessary, pruning branches can leave a tree vulnerable to invasion from insects or disease. To prevent this, make sure your shears are clean and sharp; prune correctly, leaving a small smooth cut; and paint the raw wood with horticultural sealant if you wish. Over the cut ends, trace the rune Ehwaz (which looks like a line with a hook at top and bottom). Ehwaz means "yew tree" and it grants protection, defense, strength, and endurance. |
