Color of the day: Purple
Incense of the day: Violet September 26 falls in the middle of the greater Eleusinian mysteries, a time honoring Demeter and Persephone. On this day, the holy basket of Demeter was paraded through the streets. On seeing the basket, people shouted, "Hail Demeter." The holy basket of Demeter contained sesame (for riches), carded wool (one's finished work), grains of salt (kinship), a serpent (resurrection), pomegranates (Persephone's fruit), reeds (a plant both fragile and flexible), ivy (healing and protection), and cake (prosperity). Build your own Demeter basket. You may want to substitute certain items in your basket, but try to have your substitutes correspond with the same attributes. Center your Demeter basket on your altar. Light a yellow-gold candle and pray to Demeter for good health and abundance throughout the year. |
