Sometimes a single word can change our lives. Today, remember the famous "no" uttered by Prime Minister Metaxas of Greece, forbidding the creation of Italian military bases there. It sided Greece against the Italians and Germans, and with the Allies throughout World War II.
In school and at work, we are often forced to accept things we want to refuse. As children we are taught to comply. But as adults we need to cultivate the power of "no." Learn how to politely refuse to do things that go against your beliefs and values. Learn to stand up to pushy people and bullies, and side against racism and sexism. Know when to say no. Identify one area in your life where you need to limit your involvement. And today, use the power of "no," combined with good manners, to politely decline further involvement. |
