Spell: Creating a Wintertime Altar

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

For most of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere, the cold breath of winter surrounds us at this time of year. What better way to honor that energy than to create your own shrine of the season?
Christmas and the Yuletide have passed, but it's likely that some of your decorative seasonal supplies are still close at hand. To begin, cover a small table with a white cloth to represent snow, even if snow is not prevalent in your area (natural fabric is preferable). You may wish to construct the shrine outdoors-or even construct an altar from snow itself!
Dedicate the shrine to the Holly King, the aspect of the Neopagan God archetype made notable in the poetry of Robert Graves. Because the Holly King represents winter, decorate the shrine with snowmen, evergreen needles, images of snowflakes, candles, an effigy of Santa Claus (who is himself a Holly King), and anything that represents the season to you. Perform your magick and meditation at this special shrine until the spring equinox.
