Spell: Moon Rune Spell

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Color of the day: White
Incense of the day: Cedar

In Scotland, a charm known as a "rune" was uttered when first catching a glimpse of the New Moon. This word differs from the one used to describe the Norse runes, and comes from the Scottish Gaelic word rún, which means "a secret" or "a mystery." It was also used to refer to someone who was beloved. It was traditional to turn over a piece of silver in the pocket when seeing the New Moon for the first time. Hold a silver vessel of sacred water in your hands as you scan the skies for the first appearance of the crescent Moon. When you see her, pour three circles of water on the ground and repeat this rune:

When I see the new crescent
It becomes me to say my rune.
May the Moon of Moons
Be coming through the clouds,
And be my knee bent down
To the queen of loveliness.
